LAHORE – More than 150 pieces of Quranic calligraphy displayed at Alhamra Art Gallery reveal the unique distinction of setting new trends in this art.
Quranic verses painted in various colours including silver and grey on canvases also enthralled the viewers.
The numerous masterpieces of at least 71 calligraphists attracted the viewers with their wonderful Quranic calligraphic work at an exhibition organised by the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) here on Monday.
PAC Director Ghulam Mustafa inaugurated the exhibition saying this exhibition was the revival of Arabic calligraphy. He said we should appreciate the great work done by these artists, adding we should also promote Islamic values by arranging such exhibitions.
The renowned teachers at National College of Arts (NCA) and calligraphists participated in the exhibition.
The calligraphic used different styles of writing like Tulth, Naksh, Kufic, Nastalique and Tugra.
The renowned calligraphists who participated in the exhibition included Saima Ashfaq, Abdul Wahid, Ambreen Riaz, Asghar Ali, Hajra Numan, Hina Mehboob, Javeriya, Khalid Aqah, Maryam Babar, Muhammad Ghulzar, Nida, Tahir Bin Qullandar, Uzma Nazir, Zarminae Zainali and Zarina Khurshid.
Talking to The Nation Saima Ashfaq, painter cum calligrapher, said that she used strong bright colours including red and green in her piece of art to show her inner aesthetic sense. She said that the calligraphy was her passion, adding the colours used in her pieces gave an impression of uniqueness and depth.
Another artist Nazeer Anwar said that Saima had produced masterpieces in the very start of her career, adding the compositions and splendid paintings of Saima had captured not only the souls of the viewers but the calligraphers too.
The Calligraphists displayed the masterpieces of their art as all the pieces highly attracted the viewers due to their uniqueness and artistic skills of Muslims about which we are plausibly well informed
